Carmel-based renewable energy company is expanding into microgrids, battery storage and complex building efficiency projects.
Solential Energy, a company best known for developing commercial solar projects across the Midwest, is expanding its focus and its team. Today the company announced it has named veteran energy and facilities engineer David Berty, PE, CEM, as its director of project development. The hiring reflects Solential’s growing emphasis on solving complex energy challenges faced by public and private enterprises.
Berty brings to Solential more than 20 years of experience in the energy and utilities industries, a career with heavy focus on improving energy efficiency for commercial and industrial companies. Prior to joining Solential, he was a project developer/energy engineer for Trane Technologies for nearly five years.
Commenting on the announcement, Solential President and CEO Jim Shaw says amid rising fuel costs and growing national emphasis on renewable energy, his company has a unique opportunity to deliver innovative strategies for customers facing significant energy challenges. “America’s energy system is in the midst of a transformation based on market pressures, the move to renewables, and also the emergence of exciting technologies that deliver smarter, more efficient energy use, resiliency, long-term affordability, and sustainability.”
Shaw continues, “The timing is right for Solential to bring David and his expertise onboard as we leverage our expertise in energy solutions specifically around commercial solar. We are getting involved in increasingly complex energy solutions such as microgrids, battery storage, redesigning building energy systems and envelopes, as well as energy innovations like floatovoltaics. It’s exciting to have David join us. His experience, passion, and creativity in energy systems problem-solving is unsurpassed. The team we’ve put together at Solential can do just about any large-scale project.”
Berty says he was attracted to Solential because of the opportunity to truly help customers understand how energy works, reduce their energy use and spend, and put it to work in different ways that benefits their business, operations and the environment. “Solential is leading through innovation and creating customer-specific strategies that address energy use from many different angles. Solar energy is a big part of it but may not be part of every customer’s solution. It’s really about being smarter and more innovative about energy use, generation, storage, and human capital for maintenance and operations as we face a fast-changing energy landscape.”
At Solential, Berty will be heavily involved in project conceptualization and development, working directly with customers. “I was a facilities management engineer for many years, so I’ve sat in the customer’s chair and understand their pain points.
A native of Indianapolis, Berty earned a degree in Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he played varsity football and ran track. He is a Certified Energy Manager.
